Prices For Agricultural Produce
EDM number 1398 in 2001-02, proposed by Kerry Pollard on 10/06/2002.
That this House recognises the financial hardship suffered by many farmers in the United Kingdom as a result of falling prices for agricultural produce; notes the disparity in the amount farmers receive from supermarkets compared to the prices charged to the consumer; further notes that many farmers now depend on subsidies in order to maintain their farms; and calls upon the Government to introduce measures to ensure farmers are paid a fair price for their product, to reduce their dependence on subsidies.
