Urdd Gobaith Cymru Goodwill Message

EDM number 1389 in 2001-02, proposed by Simon Thomas on 24/05/2002.

That this House congratulates Urdd Gobaith Cymru on transmitting its 80th message of goodwill on behalf of the young people of Wales and its 50,000 members from Brussels on 18th May; notes that this message was delivered in both English and Welsh and 16 other languages; concurs with the message when it says by sharing experiences and a new culture we can develop respect and love towards each other. By learning about each other, our friendships will build bridges and hopefully close the door on ignorance and open the door to justice and peace; notes that a message first delivered in Morse code in 1922 is now broadcast by radio, post and the internet; notes that the Urdd National Eisteddfod is the largest youth festival in Europe; wishes the Urdd every success with its Eisteddfod over Whitsun week; and believes that the work the Urdd does throughout Wales and in its international work unites both Welsh and English speakers and breaks down barriers between nations.
