Law Lords Victory For Asbestos Sufferers

EDM number 1334 in 2001-02, proposed by Michael Clapham on 16/05/2002.

That this House welcomes the House of Lords decision that has reversed the controversial appeal court judgement in the case of Fairchild and others; acknowledges it is a victory for justice and fairness and that thousands of mesothelioma sufferers negligently exposed to asbestos and their families will now be able to obtain compensation; recognises the commitment and determination of UCATT to obtain justice for its members; and calls on the insurance industry to settle cases honourably and expedetiously because they are under public scrutiny.

This motion has been signed by a total of 97 MPs.
