Situation In Sudan

EDM number 133 in 2001-02, proposed by Hilton Dawson on 12/07/2001.

That this House acknowledges the need for a solution to the ongoing civil war and humanitarian crisis in Sudan; welcomes the establishment of the Associate Parliamentary Group on Sudan; notes Christian Aid's recent report, The Scorched Earth, on the use of oil revenues to fund a war which costs $1 million a day; and calls on the Government to take renewed action to bring about a peace agreement based on the IGAD Declaration of Principles, to fund and support UN Human Rights monitors and to help ensure their ability to move freely within Sudan, to pressurise the Sudanese government and opposition parties to respect international humanitarian and human rights law, and to promote an international embargo on the further exploitation of Sudanese oil until these is real progress on peace, justice and human rights in that country.

This motion has been signed by a total of 45 MPs.
