Sale Of St Bernard Dogs To China
EDM number 131 in 2001-02, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 12/07/2001.
That this House expresses its concern at the exporting of St Bernard dogs from Europe to China as breeding stock for dog meat farms; notes that the demand for the St Bernard is growing in China given their size and rapid growth rate; highlights the fact that cruelty to the animals can take place in the process of being traded, with dogs being bound by the paws; urges all dog owners to try and ensure that dogs exported to Europe do not then go on to China; and calls on the Government to work with the World Society for the Protection of Animals so that no cruelty is brought to dogs in the dog meat trade and ensure that St Bernard dogs are not sold for meat.
