Dean Everett

EDM number 1247 in 2001-02, proposed by Andrew Rosindell on 08/05/2002.

That this House is appalled by the treatment received by Dean Everett following the violent attack on his person on 29th September 2000, which left him paralysed from the chest down; notes that he was initially refused physiotherapy on the National Health Service; further notes that the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority turned down his claim for compensation, even though the police believe him to have a valid case; notes that 4,000 people have signed a petition calling for the CICA to reverse their decision; calls on Her Majesty's Government for the injuries, that were no fault of his own, yet have fundamentally changed his life forever; and requests an explanation as to why Dean's clothes were not sent for forensic testing until five months after the attack and why, even though Dean has named his attackers, no criminal proceedings have begun.

This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs.
