Bishopsgate Goods Yard And The East London Line Tube Extension
EDM number 1226 in 2001-02, proposed by Brian Sedgemore on 01/05/2002.
That this House notes that proposals for the East London Line tube extension, involving Bishopsgate Goods Yard, have been discussed extensively for the past 10 years and that throughout that period English Heritage have not made a single contribution to the debate, did not give evidence to the public enquiry or approach the City of London Corporation or Tower Hamlets or Hackney councils on the subject; is appalled that English Heritage, seduced the ultra-conservative architects, have now come up with a hare-brained technically flawed scheme whose consideration can only result in extensive and unnecessary delay in completing the East London Line; is saddened that English Heritage have the support of the Prince of Wales whose unusual views on architecture and urban renaissance are well documented; condemns English Heritage for acting so as to damage the interests of the people of East London and put the regeneration of Hackney and Tower Hamlets at risk; and calls on Railtrack or its successor and London Underground to get on with the development without delay.
