Review Of The Export Credits Guarantee Department

EDM number 1208 in 2001-02, proposed by Iris Robinson on 26/04/2002.

That this House notes the importance of the role played by the Export Credits Guarantee Department in offering United Kingdom industry, such as the British Aerospace industry, competitive backing for its export effort; is concerned by the current review of the ECGD and the possibility of the Treasury either scrapping the ECGD or introducing stringent conditions and risk assessment procedures which will damage United Kingdom industry's ability to compete in world markets; and calls upon the Treasury to take cognisance of United Kingdom industry's concerns that its long-term competitiveness could be threatened by further changes to the ECGD and that the current system which has made a significant contribution to the United Kingdom economy is acknowledged as being both effective and efficient by world standards.
