English Heritage And Bishopsgate Goodsyard

EDM number 1202 in 2001-02, proposed by Bob Russell on 25/04/2002.

That this House congratulates English Heritage on its alternative proposals for Bishopsgate Goodsyard which would result in the retention of railway buildings of historic importance; supports other organisations who are likewise opposed to plans by Railtrack and London Underground to demolish some of the oldest railway construction in the world to make way for office blocks; notes that the 10-acre site houses a market, small businesses, indoor football pitches and a swimming pool, all of which would be lost if demolition proceeds; accepts English Heritage's contention that its alternative proposals do not prejudice the extension of the East London line; and calls on the Government to support English Heritage's vision of transforming the area and its historic railway buildings into the Covent Garden of the East End.

This motion has been signed by a total of 16 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
