Englishness

That this House welcomes the new positive English nationalism that has begun to emerge in England over the past few years; welcomes the contribution made by Billy Bragg and others to develop a notion of Englishness that is forward looking and fitting for the 21st century; notes that the number of people south of the border who view themselves as English rather than British has doubled in the last five years; applauds the efforts to reclaim the St George flag of England from the far right and the jingoistic; and looks forward to the day when a culturally assured, confident and multi-cultural England can enjoy good relations with an independent Scotland.
