Long Term Funding For Both Health And Social Care
EDM number 1170 in 2001-02, proposed by Hilton Dawson on 23/04/2002.
That this House agrees with the statement of Derek Wanless that 'health and social care are inextricably linked'; accepts the conclusion of the Wanless review that very substantial increases in resources for health and social care are needed; applauds the Budget commitments to an annual increase in NHS spending of 7.4 per cent. up to 2007-8 and of six per cent. per annum in social care for three years; notes, however, the Wanless' statement that 'while the review considered it vital to extend its terms of reference to begin to consider social care it had neither the information nor the resources to develop a whole system's model, nor indeed to build up projections for social care in the same level of detail as for health care'; and therefore calls for an extra and immediate study of the trends affecting social care to ensure that future projections of social care need, spending and modernisation requirements are fully integrated with those for health.
