William Shakespeare

EDM number 1168 in 2001-02, proposed by Chris Bryant on 22/04/2002.

That this House applauds William Shakespeare's unique enduring legacy; recognises not just his cultural but his economic importance to the whole of the United Kingdom as a magnet for international tourism; notes that the best way for children across the United Kingdom to study his works is by watching them in performance; urges the Royal Shakespeare Company to expand its touring horizons especially in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland; and eagerly anticipates the day when visitors to Stratford-upon-Avon can enjoy his plays in a new world-class Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

This motion has been signed by a total of 54 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
