James Watt

EDM number 1133 in 2001-02, proposed by David Cairns on 16/04/2002.

That this House acknowledges Greenock born James Watt as one of Scotland's greatest inventors, in particular his contribution to the development of steam power without which the Industrial Revolution would not have happened; regrets the derogatory tone of a new biography and submits that any entrepreneur of that time would have encountered the same business problems as Watt; and believes that whatever his failings he remains a towering and important figure in our nation's history.

This motion has been signed by a total of 39 MPs.
