European Capital Of Culture 2008

EDM number 1080 in 2001-02, proposed by David Stewart on 26/03/2002.

That this House congratulates the organisers of the Inverness and Highland bid to become the European Capital of Culture in 2008, Scotland's sole entry in the competition and first regional bid ever to be entered; believes such an award would reflect the unique cultural heritage of the Highlands of Scotland, and the rich legacy of language, literature, music and visual and performing arts for which the Highlands have become renowned worldwide; recognises the immense social and economic benefits that would flow from such an award; and wishes the organisers of the Inverness and Highland entry every success in their bid to secure the title of European Capital of Culture in 2008.

This motion has been signed by a total of 32 MPs.
