Arriva Trains (No. 2)
EDM number 1027 in 2001-02, proposed by Jeremy Corbyn on 19/03/2002.
That this House notes that Arriva Trains has just announced profits of ú11.5 million; believes that these profits can be identified with increased public financial support through the Strategic Rail Authority; further notes that Arriva has decided to pay dividends to shareholders when Arriva Trains Northern is involved in a number of pay disputes with its staff over the lack of fairness and transparency in the company pay structure; calls on Arriva to use its publicly-funded profits to invest in its workforce and settle these damaging disputes rather than line the pockets of shareholders with re-directed public subsidy; and believes that Arriva's actions in the current dispute and its performance as a train operator are examples to the utter failure of rail privatisation.
