National Asylum Support Service Regulations
EDM number 1012 in 2001-02, proposed by HELEN CLARK on 14/03/2002.
That this House deeply regrets the proposed extension to 5th April 2004 of the period during which local authorities are required under the Asylum Support (Interim Provisions) Regulations 1999 to provide support to asylum seekers and their dependants who would otherwise be destitute; notes that it was the Government's original intention to complete the transfer of responsibility for supporting such asylum seekers to the National Asylum Support Service by 1st April 2002; and calls upon the Government to take such steps as are necessary to ensure that NASS takes on responsibility for providing support to all such asylum seekers at the earliest possible date.
