Action On Coronary Heart Disease

EDM number 1008 in 2001-02, proposed by Sandra Gidley on 14/03/2002.

That this House welcomes the publication of new statistics by the British Heart Foundation which show the largest ever drop in deaths from coronary heart disease; notes that advances in treatments for CHD and improvements in some aspects of our lifestyles are helping to save the lives of thousands of people, but regrets that CHD remains the UK's single biggest killer; further notes that the number of people suffering from the disease is not dropping and that 2.6 million people still live with the consequences of CHD; recognises that the growing levels of inactivity and obesity among adults and children are of serious concern for the health of the nation in the future; and calls on the Government to set tough quantified goals for increasing levels of physical activity in the UK.

This motion has been signed by a total of 19 MPs.
