Zito Trust
EDM number 66 in 2000-01, proposed by Virginia Bottomley on 08/12/2000.
That this House welcomes the publication of the Zito Trust survey of UK health authorities, 'Are local NHS services for treating severe mental illness adequate?'; notes with concern the key findings that access to the most appropriate and effective treatments, such as the new generation of antipsychotic drugs with reduced side-effects for the 500,000 people suffering from schizophrenia in the UK is being denied to a large number of patients, that non-compliance with medication in the community is recognised as posing serious difficulties for patients and their carers, and that funding of services is seen as inadequate; and, therefore urges the Government to implement the report's recommendations at the earliest opportunity.
