Tighter Safety Regulations For Summer Workers Abroad

EDM number 651 in 2000-01, proposed by David S Borrow on 08/05/2001.

That this House notes with concern that Carl Sutton, aged 23, died after falling out of a window in the hostel of an older building in which he was staying whilst in the USA in 1999; further notes that older accommodation buildings are not covered by modern building regulations; and therefore urges the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and companies who recruit people to work in summer camps and similar establishments to ensure that appropriate safety advice is given to young people before they visit the USA.
