Recognition Of Medals For Suez Emergency 1951-54
EDM number 641 in 2000-01, proposed by Paul Burstow on 08/05/2001.
That this House recognises that this year will see the 50th anniversary of the start of the emergency in the Suez Canal zone; recognises that though 54 servicemen were killed in the emergency by enemy action, and over 300 died through terrorism, accident and disease, no medal has been issued to honour these veterans; and calls upon the Ministry of Defence formally to review the request of veterans from the emergency to receive either a Suez Campaign Medal or the General Service Medal 1918-62 with its own Suez Emergency clasp, in recognition of those who served and died for their country.
