British Sign Language
EDM number 606 in 2000-01, proposed by Tony Lloyd on 25/04/2001.
That this House notes that some 50,000 people rely on British Sign Language as their working language; recognises that deaf people still suffer a range of problems from social isolation to outright discrimination; applauds the many people, both deaf and hearing, from Greater Manchester and nationwide who are actively involved in the national campaign for recognition of British Sign Language; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to give a sympathetic response to this legitimate demand.
This motion has been signed by a total of 64 MPs.
