Traffic Calming
EDM number 60 in 2000-01, proposed by Howard Stoate on 07/12/2000.
That this House welcomes the Government's commitment to road safety, but notes with concern that less than 20 per cent. of public road safety expenditure is on preventative measures; further notes that traffic calming measures such as chicanes, traffic humps and speed limit signs, each costing no more than ú2,000, can significantly reduce the accident rate amongst pedestrians and cyclists whilst improving the quality of life in each community; and calls for traffic calming schemes to be introduced into every community as a preventative rather than as a reactive measure and for the extra funds necessary to be made available by the Government.
