Biodiesel

EDM number 59 in 2000-01, proposed by Howard Stoate on 07/12/2000.

That this House commends the Government's commitment to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 20 per cent. by 2010; notes that transport fuels are responsible for nearly 20 per cent. of annual carbon dioxide emissions; further notes that biodiesel, an entirely environmentally sustainable fuel which can be derived from oil seed rape, soybean and waste vegetable oils, can be produced without any cost to the environment, is free from sulphur dioxide and produces minimal carbon dioxide emissions and 25 per cent. less nitrogen dioxide emissions than fossil fuels; further applauds the decision of France, Germany and Italy to cut duty on biodiesel; and calls on the United Kingdom Government to also consider a cut in duty on biodiesel.

This motion has been signed by a total of 60 MPs.
