Osteoporosis
EDM number 58 in 2000-01, proposed by Howard Stoate on 07/12/2000.
That this House expresses its concern at the prevalence of osteoporosis in Britain, a condition that affects over three million people and costs the Exchequer ú1.8 billion each year; welcomes the work of the National Osteoporosis Society to draw attention to this debilitating illness and its effect on patients and their families; and supports the society's call for an osteoporosis check to be included in the proposed NHS retirement health check, explicit goals and treatment standards for osteoporosis to be incorporated into the National Health Service Framework for Older People and for sufficient funding to be made available to deliver effective treatment to all osteoporosis sufferers.
