EDM number 566A1 in 2000-01, proposed by Ann Widdecombe on 10/04/2001.
After 'escaping punishment;' insert 'but regrets the Government's decision to reject the Opposition's proposals, first put before Parliament in June last year,to reform the law in this area to protect children from predatory paedophiles who entice them through internet chatrooms using the process commonly known as "grooming"; notes that the Government rejected such Opposition amendments to the Criminal Justice and Court Services Bill on four occasions in the previous Session, and to the Criminal Justice and Police Bill on two occasions in the present Session; further notes that the Home Secretary, the Attorney General and other Ministers have claimed that the existing state of the law is adequate to deal with such predatory paedophiles, despite clear evidence to the contrary.'.
