Impact Of The Foot And Mouth Outbreak On The Mental Well-Being Of Farmers

EDM number 543 in 2000-01, proposed by Lembit Opik on 04/04/2001.

That this House regrets the emotional stress the foot and mouth crisis is causing; is concerned that farmers may be driven to take their own lives as a result; and calls on the Government to make a statement of its plans to provide economic and emotional support to those affected by the crisis and their families in order to protect the mental health of individuals experiencing the devastating effects of the current difficulties.
