Labelling Of Digital Televisions

EDM number 542 in 2000-01, proposed by Linda Gilroy on 03/04/2001.

That this House welcomes the announcement on 27th March from the Department of Trade and Industry, in association with the Digital Video Broadcasting Project consortium of broadcasters, manufacturers, network operators, software developers and regulatory bodies, that all digital TVs will carry a DVB kitemark to help consumers differentiate between analogue and digital television sets; believes that this initiative will help the public to understand better the benefits of digital television, including more free channels; welcomes the decision by the ITV companies to launch on-air promotions of the DVB kitemark and calls on the other free-to-view channels to do the same, and urges the Government to launch a wider information campaign to help the public to understand more fully the benefits of digital teleivison across all platforms - satellite, cable and terrestrial.

This motion has been signed by a total of 52 MPs.
