Young Children And The Sale Of Eminem Cds

EDM number 504 in 2000-01, proposed by Kerry Pollard on 29/03/2001.

That this House notes that some CDs and cassettes on sale to the public, such as those recorded by the American artist Eminem, contain obscene language and references to sexual acts; regrets that children as young as 12 have been successful in purchasing them without parental permission; further notes that the term 'parental guidance' on such items does not make it clear that the contents are inappropriate for young children; and calls on the Government to introduce classification and certification for audio CDs and cassettes along the lines of the certification system currently used for films and video cassettes.
