Oxford Heart Centre
EDM number 489 in 2000-01, proposed by Tony Baldry on 27/03/2001.
That this House expresses concern that Mr Stephen Westaby, a full time National Health Service consultant cardiac surgeon at the Oxford Heart Centre, part of the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, has stated that he ...used to carry out between 12 and 16 operations a week here in Oxford, and is ...now reduced to 2 or 3; is further concerned that there now appear to be three waiting lists at the John Radcliffe hospital: a waiting list, a priority waiting list, and a priority urgent waiting list; notes that management at the John Radcliffe have stated that they have put forward bids to our purchases which identify the number of staff needed to adequately resource our contracted commitments; and calls on the Government as a matter of priority to provide adequate funds to enable sufficient nurses to be recruited and retained at the John Radcliffe Hospital and the Oxford Heart Centre to reduce the cardiac waiting list.
