Trunk Road Programme 2001

EDM number 471 in 2000-01, proposed by Lynne Jones on 21/03/2001.

That this House shares the concerns expressed by many groups about the impact of road building schemes proposed under the Trunk Road Programme 2001 and given by the Government to regional assemblies in January; notes that many of these schemes threaten important environmentally sensitive sites including sites of special scientific interest and areas of outstanding natural beauty; calls attention to the apparent contradiction with other areas of Government policy, particularly as recently instituted in the Countryside and Rights of Way Act; notes the lack of consideration alongside other transport plans; and calls on the Government to delay approval of any such scheme until full cognisance is taken of the results of the relevant multi-modal study and assessment is made of alternatives to the proposed new roads and their real regenerative benefits.

This motion has been signed by a total of 10 MPs.
