Trade Union Law
EDM number 454 in 2000-01, proposed by Tony Benn on 15/03/2001.
That this House believes that every employer should have the right, and every public employer or employer enjoying public subsidy should have the duty, only to deal with contractors, national or foreign, which supply goods and services manufactured and supplied by employers which recognise unions and comply with international trade union rights; further believes that the courts should have the duty to construe all existing legislation and to adapt the common law so as to make them consistent with the provisions of international trade union rights ratified by the UK and, where an existing law cannot be so construed, then, to the extent that it is inconsistent, it should be rendered void; and invites Her Majesty's Government to incorporate all the international trade union rights ratified by the UK into national law and all future legislation to be scrutinised to ensure consistency with those provisions.
