Assistance For Rural Tourism
EDM number 452 in 2000-01, proposed by Simon Thomas on 14/03/2001.
That this House congratulates Sir Ray Tindle, publisher of the Cambrian News and other mid-Wales newspapers, on his decision to establish a fund to assist rural businesses damaged by the foot and mouth crisis; urges the Government to match Sir Ray's generosity and in particular to consider deferring VAT and business rates payments; requests that the Government discusses the need to support rural businesses at this difficult time with banks and other lenders; believes that guidance to rural businesses and visitors has been contradictory to date; and demands that the Government issues clear guidelines on rural tourism and brings forward a recovery plan for the industry.
