Relations Between The Alleanza Nazionale And The Conservative Party

EDM number 444 in 2000-01, proposed by Martin Salter on 14/03/2001.

That this House notes with concern reports in the Independent and the Mirror newspapers of links between the Italian party, the Alleanza Nazionale, described by the Conservative leader in the European Parliament as neo-fascist, and the British Conservative Party; further notes that a leading member of the Alleanza Nazionale recently met the honourable Member for Chingford and Woodford Green and the honourable Member for Chesham and Amersham in the House; further notes that a meeting was also scheduled with the Right honourable Member for Richmond (Yorks); further notes that the series of meetings was organised by the Conservative prospective candidate for Romford, Mr Andrew Rosindell; also notes that the youth section of the Conservative Party is allied to the youth section of the neo-fascist Alleanza Nazionale through the European Young Conservatives; therefore demands the Right honourable Member for Richmond (Yorks) withdraw the Conservative Party's affiliation to the European Young Conservatives; further calls upon the Right honourable Member for Richmond (Yorks) to give an undertaking that there will be no further contacts between the Conservative Party and the Alleanza Nazionale; and further demands that the Right honourable Member for Richmond (Yorks) rule out the possibility of alliance between Conservative and Alleanza Nazionale members of the European Parliament in accordance with previous commitments he has given and take action to remove Mr Rosindell as a Conservative candidate.

This motion has been signed by a total of 35 MPs.
