Action On Housing Benefit
EDM number 441 in 2000-01, proposed by Karen Buck on 14/03/2001.
That this House notes that 18 years have passed since housing benefit was first introduced; further notes a report from the National Housing Federation, 'Housing Benefit: No Cause to Celebrate', which illustrates the problems being experienced by too many people on low incomes who seek help with their housing costs; congratulates the Government on the positive measures taken on housing and housing benefit following the consultation on the Housing Green Paper; and urges further reform to improve the administration of housing benefit, tackle the problem of work incentives and social exclusion and create a more just housing subsidy which encourages work and provides security in time of need.
