Xenotransplantation

EDM number 415 in 2000-01, proposed by Norman Baker on 07/03/2001.

That this House calls upon the Government to establish an independent judicial inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding pig-to-primate organ transplant research conducted on animals by Imutran Ltd. at Huntingdon Life Sciences, so that the alleged incidents as reported in the Express newspaper and 'Diaries of Despair' Report can be investigated, to identify potential breaches of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986, to consider the adequacy of the Home Office's regulation of the research programme and to identify the lessons to be learnt regarding the regulation of animal experimentation.

This motion has been signed by a total of 47 MPs.
