Conduct Of The Right Honourable Member For Kensington And Chelsea

EDM number 382 in 2000-01, proposed by Fraser Kemp on 27/02/2001.

That this House notes with concern the revelation that the Right honourable Member for Kensington and Chelsea's declared remuneration and agreement in the Register of Members' Interests with the oil company Kerr McGee is only a 'small proportion of our much wider agreement'; also notes with concern the apparent contradiction that he 'rarely, if ever' gives Kerr McGee advice on UK matters and the Register entry that states he gives only 'international advice' to the company; further notes that the Right honourable Member, as Shadow Chancellor, is in charge of setting Conservative tax policy for the oil industry in the UK; regrets his refusal to publish further details of his links with the company; therefore demands that the Right honourable Member clarify the full extent of his links with Kerr McGee; further demands that the Right honourable Member declare whether he has every advised Kerr McGee on UK issues; notes that until the Right honourable Member clarifies his relationship with Kerr McGee, a potential conflict of interest arises with his role of setting Conservation tax policy as Shadow Chancellor; and further calls on the new Chairman of the Committee on Standards in Public Life to investigate the fact that 'non-domestic' advice given by honourable Members to companies is undeclarable.

This motion has been signed by a total of 33 MPs.
