CHILDREN'S COMMISSIONER

EDM number 361 in 2000-01, proposed by Paul Burstow on 15/02/2001.

That this House welcomes the establishment of a Children's Commissioner in Wales, but is disappointed that the Government failed to make amendments to improve the Bill during its passage in the House; considers that the establishment of an independent children's commissioner for England with significant powers to consider and make appropriate representations on all matters affecting the rights of children ordinarily resident in England, is essential; and urges the Government to legislate for a children's commissioner for England who could put the interest of children first and act across all policy areas to ensure the best possible outcomes for children.

This motion has been signed by a total of 44 MPs.
