Eu Tobacco Directive And UK Jobs

EDM number 359 in 2000-01, proposed by John Cummings on 15/02/2001.

That this House calls on Her Majesty's Government to renew its efforts to halt the export of United Kingdom manufacturing jobs which will be brought about by the implementation of the draft Directive on the Manufacture, Sale and Presentation of Tobacco Products; is concerned that these jobs losses have been disregarded by the European Commission; is extremely concerned about the disproportionate impact of this directive on jobs in the United Kingdom, particularly in the constituency of Easington; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to take account of the representation of the Tobacco Workers' Alliance and to press for the removal of the export bans in the Directive.
