Animals In War And In Peace
EDM number 356 in 2000-01, proposed by Tony Banks on 14/02/2001.
That this House offers its support to the campaign by the Animals in War Memorial Fund to build a monument dedicated to the thousands of creatures who suffered and perished alongside British and Commonwealth forces in wars and campaigns during the 20th century; particularly congratulates pigeon fanciers from around the United Kingdom for their fundraising efforts to commemorate the unique role played by pigeons in war, primarily in communication and rescue efforts; notes that 31 pigeons have been awarded Dickin medals, the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross; and calls attention to the fact that, whilst it is right to acknowledge the role of pigeons in war, it is totally wrong that they should be allowed to be starved to death in Trafalgar Square.
This motion has been signed by a total of 24 MPs.
