Costs Of Aids Drugs In Africa
EDM number 334 in 2000-01, proposed by Hilary Benn on 13/02/2001.
That this House notes that of the 25 million people in Africa with HIV and AIDS, only one in a thousand has access to anti-retroviral drugs which could prolong their lives; recognises that this is partly because the prices charged for these drugs by the pharmaceutical companies are far too high for national health systems to afford; and calls on the pharmaceutical companies to reduce the charge they make for these drugs in the interests of saving human life.
