Greater Manchester Brain Injury Vocational Centre (Gm Bivc)
EDM number 318 in 2000-01, proposed by Neil Turner on 09/02/2001.
That this House welcomes the Government's commitment to extending rehabilitation services and helping those with disabilities who want to work back into work; considers that successful vocational programmes, such as those run by Rehab UK, play a vital part in getting the many who have suffered an acquired brain injury off benefit dependency and back into work, thereby increasing their social independence; is justifiably concerned that the Greater Manchester Brain Injury Vocational Centre, in spite of its successes and the huge demand for its services, may be forced to close due to inadequate funding support from local agencies; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to safeguard the future of the Greater Manchester Brain Injury Vocational Centre by taking urgent steps to being forward plans for new partnerships with the voluntary sector and inter-agency working in order to guarantee that joined-up local services are available to help people with acquired brain injury in the Greater Manchester area back into work.
