Support For Disabled People In Employment
EDM number 309 in 2000-01, proposed by Kerry Pollard on 08/02/2001.
That this House recognises that many disabled people with care needs are willing and very able to contribute to the economic life of this country and welcomes initiatives, such as the New Deal and Welfare to Work, designed to support disabled people into employment; recognises that care charges can be a major disincentive to taking up employment; and calls on the Government to ensure that working disabled people who need third-party support in day-to-day living should be able to benefit from employment at all levels of earned income on an equal basis with their non-disabled peers and should not have unreasonable charges made for the cost of their care on the basis of earned income, either by local authorities or the independent living funds.
