New Look Trafalgar Square

EDM number 293 in 2000-01, proposed by Diane Abbott on 05/02/2001.

That this House supports the plans of the Mayor of London for the regeneration of Trafalgar Square; notes that these plans include the introduction of new bye-laws and heritage wardens under the square's management programme which has already cut crime by 50 per cent. in four months' future pedestrianisation for the immediate vicinity, a series of new activities and events to be held in the square from March 2001 and the decision not to issue a licence to feed pigeons in the square; and congratulates the Mayor on this package of measures which will turn Trafalgar Square into a safer, less-polluted space, for cultural entertainment and other activities for the benefit of London's visitors and resident alike.
