Red Tape Restrictions On Pubs
EDM number 259 in 2000-01, proposed by Brian Cotter on 29/01/2001.
That this House notes with concern the findings of a recent survey of publicans that indicated high levels of red tape and bureaucracy within the trade; considers that special attention should be given to examining ways of reducing regulations where they are not necessary; urges the Government to respond to the suggestion that there should be a single point of contact within Government for pubs so that policies and regulations can be coordinated; recognises that there should be full consultation before measures are introduced by Government; recommends that the Small Business Service should play a pro-active role in the consideration of regulatory requirements; and further urges that sunset clauses should be established as a way of reducing unnecessary regulations.
