Action On The Rural White Paper
EDM number 222 in 2000-01, proposed by Colin Breed on 18/01/2001.
That this House welcomes the publication of the Rural White Paper and the recognition therein of the problems facing rural communities; but deplores the lack of references to these in the Queen's Gracious Address or in the contributions of the Prime Minister or the Conservative Leader to the debate on the address; notes that even today rural communities are in decline and in many areas people remain unable to access essential services; and therefore calls upon Her Majesty's Government to ensure that the Rural White Paper does not gather dust, by implementing its proposals without delay and providing adequate resources to ensure that they make a real and lasting difference to rural communities.
