Equitable Compensation For Rail Commuters
EDM number 202 in 2000-01, proposed by Harry Barnes on 15/01/2001.
That this House is appalled that the train operating companies, which are due to receive compensation from Railtrack for the recent severe disruptions, will not compensate regular commuters who hold daily or weekly tickets on the same basis as those who hold monthly or annual season-tickets although they were equally badly inconvenienced by unusually unreliable over-crowded and uncomfortable services; believes that the train operating companies should allow customers to prove with, for instance, their bank and credit card statements or letters of verification from their employers, as well as any retained tickets, that they travelled during the period relevant for the special compensation of carriage so that future train operating companies to alter the national conditions of carriage so that future compensation packages do not make second class citizens out of many of their poorly served passengers and, in the meantime, to demonstrate a generosity of spirit to regular commuters who hold daily or weekly tickets.
