Malnutrition Carousel
EDM number 200 in 2000-01, proposed by Howard Stoate on 15/01/2001.
That this House acknowledges that malnutrition is a significant United Kingdom public health problem affecting up to two million people, which causes avoidable ill health and annually costs the NHS millions of pounds; notes that malnutrition is frequently undetected and untreated where malnourished patients circulate between hospital and the community on a malnutrition carousel because they are undernourished; welcomes the new guidelines produced by the Mulnutrition Advisory Group to help health professionals detect and manage mulnutrition in the community; and calls on the Government to support and endorse the use of the guidelines in the NHS to help reduce the unacceptable incidence of malnutrition throughout the community.
