Racecourse Holdings Trust
EDM number 187 in 2000-01, proposed by Alan Meale on 11/01/2001.
That this House believes that there is a need for a full inquiry into the rightful ownership of Racecourse Holdings Trust, a body which currently owns and operates 13 British racecourses in the UK, including the premier tracks at Aintree, Cheltenham, Epsom, Newmarket, Sandown, Kempton and Haydock Park; and notes that although the capital assets of RHT have been acquired over many years by the use of either public funds or monies raised via the racing industries annual levy payments scheme, they are currently managed, controlled and owned by the Jockey Club, a private non-charitable organisation which has only a few members and is therefore wholly unrepresentative of those who operate, are employed, support or invest in horseracing in the UK.
This motion has been signed by a total of 27 MPs.
