Rail Fares
EDM number 160 in 2000-01, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 08/01/2001.
That this House notes with concern the decision taken by several rail companies to increase fares over and above the rate of inflation; believes that in the light of the disrupted and delayed services that have been operating, and will continue to operate until Easter, the increases are unjustified; recognises that this is another example of how privatised railway companies operate in the interests of profit rather than the consumer; and calls on those companies which have increased fares to reverse their decisions so that the customer is not penalised further with a service that is not being delivered adequately.
