Ethnic Minority Access To Mental Health Services
EDM number 130 in 2000-01, proposed by Evan Harris on 19/12/2000.
That this House notes the concerns expressed by many in the mental health field that black and ethnic minority service users find it difficult to access appropriate services; notes with concern the findings of a recent survey of Mind's black and ethnic minority network that over 90 per cent. of respondents felt that institutional racism in mental health services was in part responsible for this; notes the importance of black and ethnic minority voluntary organisations in providing appropriate services; and urges the Government to take action to ensure that services become more responsive to the needs of a diverse community in the United Kingdom.
